Leaves of Absence

If you need to be away from work, several kinds of leaves of absence are available.

Baker Hughes offers various leaves of absence, subject to advanced approval, for certain quality-of-life needs, including family care and personal leaves.

Paid Parental Leave

To assist and support new parents with balancing work and family matters, Baker Hughes provides eight weeks of paid leave to all US employees (females and males) for the birth or adoption of a child.

For new moms who give birth, PPL starts after her short-term disability leave ends. Short-Term Disability and Paid Parental Leave run concurrently with Family Medical Leave (FMLA) or any state-mandated leaves.

Paid Parental Leave must be taken within the first year of the birth or adoption of a child.

Bereavement leave

Baker Hughes provides employees with up to three days of paid bereavement leave due to the death of an immediate family member. Immediate family members include:

  • Spouse 
  • Children and stepchildren
  • Foster children living with you
  • Parents and stepparents
  • Siblings and step-siblings
  • Grandparents and step-grandparents
  • Grandchildren and step-grandchildren 
  • Legal guardians
  • Parents-in-law
  • Grandparents-in-law 
  • Brothers- and sisters-in-law  
  • Sons- and daughters-in-law

An additional two days of paid bereavement leave is provided for the death of a:

  • Spouse 
  • Children and stepchildren
  • Brothers, sisters, stepbrothers, and stepsisters
  • Foster children living with you
  • Parents and stepparents
  • Legal guardian
  • Grandchildren

Jury duty

Employees are eligible for a paid leave for jury duty. Your pay and benefits continue while you are on jury duty. You may also keep any payments made by the court for jury duty service. Notify your manager as soon as possible after you receive a notice to report for jury duty. Your manager may ask you to provide a copy of your jury duty summons.

Military leave

If you are on a military leave, you will receive a pay differential. You can receive 30 days for annual training or voluntary enlistment or 180 days for involuntary or active duty.
